Description
100% Indian Cocoa Powder | Kerala & Karnataka Cacao | 180 Gms jar
Place
Our cocoa powder begins with cacao sourced from farms in Kerala and Karnataka, two important regions in India’s growing cacao landscape. Cocoa thrives here in humid tropical conditions and is frequently grown alongside coconut and arecanut, making it part of a diverse South Indian plantation ecosystem.
Season
Cocoa Powder is an all-season pantry ingredient. Use it in warming drinks and baking through winter, cold drinks and smoothies in summer, and desserts throughout the year.
Make
Cacao beans are fermented, dried and roasted before being processed into cocoa solids and cocoa butter. The cocoa solids are then finely milled into the familiar powder used for baking and beverages, allowing cacao’s concentrated flavour to move from the chocolate bar into the kitchen.
Tradition
Cacao’s Indian story is relatively modern, but its cultivation has become established within the plantation economies of South India. ICAR’s research on cocoa from centres in Kasaragod, Kerala and Vittal and Kidu in Karnataka reflects the crop’s growing place in India’s agricultural landscape.
Modern Use
Use Indian Cocoa Powder in cakes, brownies, smoothies, oats, hot cocoa, desserts or savoury experiments such as mole-style sauces. Unsweetened cocoa contributes concentrated cacao flavour and naturally occurring plant compounds without needing to be confined to confectionery.
